The discipline of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of KwaZulu-Natal is as varied as modern South African society and our biggest focus is people. We not only train undergraduates but also registrars from South Africa and from our neighbouring countries.
Orthopaedic is a discipline of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic uses both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders
Our registrars write their Fellowship exams in Orthopaedic Surgery (The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa). In addition all registrars are required to complete their Master of Medicine (MMed) before registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
