BIOSKETCH
Dr Phakamani Goodman Mthethwa graduated as an orthopaedic surgeon in 2016. He is the founder and head of the clinical unit of orthopaedic surgery at Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Memorial Hospital. His special interest is bone tumours, infections, and limb reconstruction. He holds a Master of Orthopaedic Surgery with a topic on The microbiology of Chronic Osteomyelitis in the Developing World. He is also a senior honorary lecturer and an acting academic head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine. His PhD focus topic was Conventional Osteosarcoma of the Appendicular Skeleton: Response to Chemotherapy and Genetics Considerations in a South African Population. Dr Mthethwa is currently a member of the South Africa Orthopaedic Association (SAOA) and the South African Limb Preservation Society (SOLS) secretary. He is the husband of an ophthalmologist, Dr Phelele D. Mncube, and the father of 4 children a passionate Christian who loves reading, sports, and sleep.
